Seed Memory

“the seeds in my palms carry dreams, transmuted light into matter, celestial DNA embedded into each kernel’s memory. with my palms, now shaking, i remember who i am, a child of the corn, the sun, and the cosmos. as the days become warmer, my achy heart says a prayer for beauty, and the world responds with the ringing melodies of hummingbird chirps.”

Seed Mother: Coming Home

A creative short film in collaboration with the Native American Food Sovereignty Alliance and The Cultural Conservancy. “Seed Mother: Coming Home ” is a collaborative short film sharing the powerful essence of the Seed Rematriation movement’s healing work of cross-cultural reconciliation to bring these seeds home to their communities of origin.

Directed by Mateo Hinojosa, with the words of Rowen White, and featuring many Indigenous seed keepers. John Jairo Valencia was commissioned for the illustrations and assisting with the animation of the film. Color textures created with plant-based paint washes by Rowen White.

The Native Seed Pod

The Native Seed Pod is a podcast that explores and celebrates Native foodways, ancestral seeds, and the Traditional Ecological Knowledge needed to renew the health of the Earth and all our relations. From planting songs to cultural foodscapes, we highlight the importance of protecting and restoring agrobiodiversity and food sovereignty to sustain resilient communities.

We seek to be an antidote to the monoculture of the mind, by asking:

What seeds have we inherited?
What seeds have we lost and are revitalizing?
What seeds are we planting to nourish the future?
